Let’s face it - there are reasons why people are bus drivers:
1. IQ well below the national average
2. Unable to get a proper job

as. a bus driver myself my pet hates ar cyclists . i drive in the country and they just hold us up with fingers raised most times i feel like running over the buggers . but law says i cant , we have a job to do and a time table to keep not sit behind a bloody bike . whick bings me to my next point taxi drivers and post office van drivers are far worse than any other drivers in the road. as a bus driver we have to start and stop to let people on and off. and the amount of motorist never let us out . so why should we be considerate. to yous …..

I have been a city bus driver for 25 years.I am also an avid cyclist,having cycled across Canada ,3700 miles in 37 days.Bus drivers are people doing a very difficult an often misunderstood job.The problem is, I think anyway,is that not everyone can handle the stresses of the job.It is a very abusive job,and yet a very responsible job with very little thanks.Just a comment.Have a great day everyone.

So why shouldn’t the driver claim the moral high ground and be courteous to other road users, regardless of how badly the passengers they are carrying behave?

my trade is engineering working in the machine shops.
got made redundant more than once. became a bus driver and suffered 3 years of it. i was spat at, had piss thrown at me from a coke bottle, was stabbed by a looney with a needle, put up with verbal abuse on a daily basis. all for trying to do my job. you hate bus drivers, i hate the public !!

sadly, they’ve changed the design of buses so that the emergency engine stop button is no longer mounted on the outside of the flap on the back of the bus. Possibly for just this reason.

I’ve sometimes wondered where it’s been moved to, under the flap, and how quickly I could dismount, pull the flap up, find the button and push it, get back on the bike and ride off…

excellent idea about the obligatory cycling training, btw.
