I never thought it would be so difficult to buy a wired Apple keyboard in South London at short notice.
Really quite incredible.
I keep being met with ‘A what keyboard?’ or just ‘Buuugh, we don’t sell them here. Have you looked at the Logitech ones? They’ve got lots of media buttons!’. Yes, yes they do. If I try really, really hard, I might even press one, one day.

There’s an Authorised Apple reseller in Bulwagh. Well I never. Not that they’ve got any stock of wired keyboards, mind…

But sir, why do you want a standard wired keyboard when we have cordless ones, infra-red ones, Bluetooth ones, this one’s got a wheel on it, you can operate this one from the other end of the garden, look, this one’s got a laser pointer, ooeeooooo…

And I thought it was all Indian restaurants, trendy bars and twee shops. Crazy, huh?
Because I’m fed up of doing what has come to be known in the
officestudio as the Bluetooth shuffle. Which is when you turn your computer on in the morning/wake it from sleep and pound the keyboard/wiggle the mouse for a few minutes to recreate the connection, all the while hoping that your computer won’t try to pair with the mouse and keyboard sitting on someone else’s desk.Also, the cable for my mouse isn’t long enough to comfortably reach from the back of the mini to my hand (deep desk), and the wired keyboard has a built in USB hub.
And wired ones are a bit more, y’know,
snappyresponsive, and on a mini, you take any bit of responsiveness you can get…
